Arrivederci Venice!

Image
We take the train back to Rome today and fly home tomorrow.  While we’re melancholy about our trip ending, we are enjoying all the rich experiences and sights we’ve had and seen.   The vacation of a lifetime!  Until we meet again, Italy!!     And Ok - I have to add to this post.  We woke up to rain in Venice and Andy was feeling a bit under the weather (no pun intended).   We took the water taxi over to the train and then the train from Venice to Rome.  The drive is like 6.5 hours and the train is 4 hours.  We were doing over 150 miles per hour at some points.  We arrived in Rome around dinner - and had one last go with pasta and red wine.   Then we took a train down to the airport and to our hotel, which Andy had reserved near the coast.  It was called the Tiber Inn.  We were both expecting this little country hotel and our hopes of a sunset were dashed by the overcast skies and rain.    When we got there we wer...

Just Another Saturday in Venice

Image
It was a slow Saturday morning for me.  After a long and eventful journey the previous day and also having gone 11 days straight sight seeing (averaging over 17k steps per day), I needed rest.  Woke up to this: https://youtube.com/shorts/tH0POO5glmQ?feature=share We finally got going at noon and headed out for lunch and adventure.  First order of business was to visit St Mark’s Square and finally see what was named after me….   And one thing I had to do was the bookend to a 15 year old “assignment” (request) that I had given Jessica when she came to Venice in 8th grade.  That was to do a little dance in St Marks square.  Here is me on the other side of that bookend.  https://youtube.com/shorts/45J9y-Dprd8?feature=share Then we found a cool place for lunch, where, once again, we got a twisty face when we didn’t have a reservation and then got a primo spot next to the window.   They had a really cool seafood pizza And while we were waiting to be sea...

The Drive to reach Venice

Image
Driving north from Lecchi we passed through a number of small towns including Panzano And lunch in Piazza Metteotti in Greve  https://youtube.com/shorts/IOwsroAjkPc?feature=share Driving into Florence was a lot harder than we thought it was going to be.  With traffic and one way streets and construction and permit only drive zones and traffic (did I mention that).  I think it took us 45 minutes once we were in the city to get our car in the right spot so that we could get it back in the garage at the train station. We almost clipped a guy on a scooter, nearly got splinched by a bus and reversed it back up a one way street after a wrong turn and a stiff reprimand from an Italian woman (with a look of “how stupid are you?” On her face).  We missed our train, but having splurged on first class tickets, we got to wait in the lounge for the next train (an hour later).  And then, Ahhhh: https://youtube.com/shorts/3aS_-3ZHFdM?feature=share https://youtube.com/shorts/9I...
